Abstract
Penelitian ini berangkat dari masalah keposmoan novel Durga Umayi karya Y.B. Mangunwijaya. Oleh karena itu, digunakan teori dan pendekatan pascastukturalis untuk mengurai kondisi posmodern dalam karya yang terbit pada tahun 1991 itu. Kondisi posmodern dalam novel ditelisik dari straiegi 'bahasa' yang menjadi cara baca kalangan pascastrukturalis. Dengan metode pembacaan yang menitikberatkan pada ikhtiar mengaburkan dan membalik oposisi biner, serta strategi peniadaaan pusat (decentering) dapat dirunut maksud tersembunyi dari teks dan pembongkaran kesadaran kolektif yang selama ini menyusun sejarah, pengetahuan, dan mitos.

The root of this study is the posmodernism issue in Y.B Mangunwijaya's novel Durga Umayi. Therefore, poststructuralist theory and approach is used to describe the postmodern condition in the work published in 1991. The novel's postmodern condition is investigated by using 'language' strategy being the poststructuralists' way of reading. By the reading method emphasizing on the efforts of obscuring and reversing the binary opposition, and the decentering strategy, the hidden intention of the text and the disclosure of collective awareness thus far constructing history, science, and mythology can be traced.
