Abstract

The research aims to reveal the representation of environmental care attitudes of the people and government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta in news discourse about waste pollution in Yogyakarta. This research is a qualitative research type using M.A.K Halliday's systemic functional linguistic approach to the transitivity analysis aspect. Transitivity analysis reveals acrots, roles and attitudes, and context to conclude the meaning of the use of language functions in news discourse. The source of research data is news discourse in the mass media KR Jogja and Tribun Jogja about the waste problem. The results of this research show that there is community and government participation as actors related to the waste problem which is displayed in the functions and roles in the linguistic analysis of the text. The role of the community as an actor who produces waste does not yet have 3R awareness and an attitude of caring about the environment, which causes waste to pile up in landfills. The role of the Yogyakarta regional government in not developing integrated waste production that is efficient and environmentally friendly, has caused waste to continue to be piled up in landfills for years.
